Catching up with Cougar Track – 2/10/22

Cougars looking for continued success in 2022

Don’t look now, but your Cougars begin the 2022 Track & Field season tomorrow, 2/11/2022! We caught up with Coach David Kerr to get his thoughts on the upcoming season.

CCABC: “As we open track season this week, what are your expectations going into the season?”

Coach Kerr: “I am very optimistic about this season. I feel like we have a very good mix of experience, as well as some youth. We return 7 kids from last year’s team, which is pretty good. This is the deepest team I have had since I have been the head coach. We have kids that run multiple events, which is always an advantage in Track.”

CCABC: “Where do you feel like we are strongest as a team?”

Coach Kerr: “I feel like our strongest group right now is our 4×100, 4×200, and 4×400 Relays. We also have a good group of 200 and 400 runners.”

CCABC: “Are there any individuals you feel are going to be able to take the next step this year from a good performance in 2021?”

Coach Kerr: “Gorman Granston, who is a Junior, advanced all the way to the Regional Meet in the 400 as well as the 4×400 Relay last season. I am looking for him to be a huge factor in our success. Senior Raymond Rollins was running well last season before an injury sidelined him for the remainder of the season. Seniors Zane Mattingly and Reshun Thompson are expected to be major contributors to the team. First Year Varsity Runners Alex Long-Craine (JR), Keshawan Lamont (Soph), Elijah Mack (Soph), Brad Jackson (Soph) and Kyzler Johnson (Soph) will also play a big role in our success.”

CCABC: “Historically, 17-6A has been a very competitive district. What do you expect from the district this year?”

Coach Kerr: “I expect the District Meet to be really exciting in April. This district is so competitive, and on April 11, 12 and 14th, it will be fun to watch with some close races.”
