Hi All,
This is the time of year we have all been waiting for! Fall is here, the weather has cooled off, and the Cougar volleyball and football teams are in the stretch run for a playoff spot. The Cougars worked all spring and summer, and have battled all fall to get to a point where they control their playoff lives. It will be an exciting 3 weeks as we watch and see what happens!
Volleyball
The Cougars are currently 8-3 in district and are tied for 3rd place with Stratford, both just 1 game behind Memorial. The Cougars can finish anywhere from 2nd to 5th in district. The magic number to clinch a playoff spot is 1 meaning that a Cougar win or Jersey Village loss will put the Cougars back in the playoffs.
The Cougars have 3 very difficult road games coming up starting Tuesday night at Stratford, then Friday at Memorial, and finishing next Tuesday at Jersey Village. Creek went 2-1 over this stretch during the first half of district play, but both wins were hard fought 5 setters against Memorial and Jersey Village so both will be looking for revenge.
The Cougars have improved every week after starting the year with only 2 seniors and very little returning varsity experience. A difficult early schedule has prepared the Cougars well for this district run. The Cougars hope that the experienced gained and challenges overcome will propel them to a strong finish and a playoff run.
Football
No one quite knew what to expect when the Cougars kicked off the season back in August. We all knew the team was extremely young after losing over 50 seniors from a year ago, and having multiple freshmen and sophomores in the starting lineup. We took a couple of tough early losses, but broke through against Eisenhower with the defense stopping the Eagles on a 2 point conversion with just seconds remaining. The Cougars weren’t quite ready for the big stage against Cy Fair as we came out of the gate slowly, but the Cougars found something in the 2nd half against the Bobcats, and the offense has been on a roll since.
The Cougars now stand at 3-1 in district with 3 very difficult games remaining. The positive is that the Cougars control their own destiny. Win all 3, and they are district champs, but lose all 3, and the Cougars will be on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoffs. Win 1 or 2, and the Cougars will be in a great position for a 4th consecutive playoff appearance.
It will not be easy for the Cougars as Stratford, Memorial, and Jersey Village are a combined 18-3 on the season. Stratford comes in red hot at 7-0, fresh off a win over their arch rival Memorial. This will be a major test for the Cougars Saturday night at 7 PM at Pridgeon. The Cougars follow that game by hosting Memorial at Pridgeon on Saturday the 30th at 1 PM. The regular season ends on Friday, 11/5, again at Pridgeon vs Jersey Village, who is also 7-0.
This young Cougar team will grow up fast over the next 3 weeks, and no matter what happens down the stretch, the future is bright.
The Cougar athletes have put a lot of work in to get to this point, and they would love to have your support as they fight for playoff spots! See you at the gym and Pridgeon!
Go Cougars!
